'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' Actor David Ryall Dies at 79

The British actor, who is best known for his role as Elphias Doge in 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I', passed away on Christmas Day.

AceShowbiz - David Ryall, the British actor who is best known for his role as Albus Dumbledore's friend Elphias Doge in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I", died on Thursday, December 25 at the age of 79. No further details were given about David's passing.

His daughter, Charlie Ryall, paid tribute to him on Twitter, encouraging others to remember his father's various roles. "Please take a moment to remember his huge five-decade-spanning career outside of the more well-known TV & film. Not just 'Harry Potter'. Not that I don't love Harry Potter. I do, I do. But there's so much more."

"Sherlock" actor Mark Gatiss also paid tribute to David, tweeting, "The great David Ryall left us on Christmas Day. A twinkling, brilliant, wonderful actor I was privileged to call a friend. RIP."

Besides "Harry Potter", David's big screen credits included "The Elephant Man", "City of Ember" and "Around the World in 80 Days". Most recently, he had a small role in "Automata" which featured Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith.

David's small screen credits, meanwhile, included "The River, On the Line" and "Outnumbered".

David is survived by three children, a music-manager son Jonathan Ryall, a singer daughter Imogen Ryall and an actress daughter Charlie.
