AceShowbiz - A spokesman for Muhammad Ali said on Saturday, December 20 that the former heavyweight champion boxer was taken to hospital with a mild case of pneumonia. The illness was caught early and the hospital stay was expected to be short.
"He went into the hospital this morning," Bob Gunnell said of his client who was in a stable condition. "He has a mild case of pneumonia and the prognosis is good." Giving no other details, the spokesman asked that the privacy of Ali's family be respected.
Ali's daughter Laila Ali updated her father's status via Twitter on Sunday, writing, "Thanks for all the well wishes and prayers for my father. He is doing well - Y'all know he is a fighter! WE APPRECIATE ALL THE LOVE!"
Ali has been battling Parkinson's disease after diagnosed in 1984. The 72-year-old was last seen in public attending a ceremony for the Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Awards in September in his hometown of Louisville.
