Movie theaters are not the first choice to spend the weekend as people tend to go holiday shopping.

AceShowbiz - "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1" retains its box office position at number one on a slow weekend. The Francis Lawrence movie added an estimated $21.6 million this weekend for a total of $257.7 million domestically and $560.5 million worldwide.
People tend to go to parties, go shopping and skip theaters for the holiday season as it approaches Christmas. The top ten films fell 39|percent| from the previous weekend but are expected to see an increase over the next few weeks with the release of "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" and "Exodus: Gods and Kings" among others.
In the second place this weekend, DreamWorks animation "Penguins of Madagascar" took in $11.1 million for a domestic total of $49.6 million. "Horrible Bosses 2" moved from fifth to third position although experiencing a decline with $8.6 million. "Big Hero 6" is placed at the fourth place with $8.1 million, followed by "Interstellar" with $8 million.
The only new release that could break the top 10 this weekend is "The Pyramid". Produced by Alexandre Aja, the horror thriller follows a team of U.S. archaeologists who gets more than they bargained for when they discover a lost pyramid unlike any other in the Egyptian desert. It debuted at number 9 with an estimated $1.4 million.
