The actress sang the dark song 'The Hanging Tree' in her latest film 'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1' as Katniss Everdeen.

AceShowbiz - Jennifer Lawrence scored her first U.K. Top 40 single with "The Hanging Tree". The actress gave a pleasant surprise when she displayed her voice skill in a scene of "The Hunger Games" Mockingjay, Part 1".

"The Hanging Tree" is currently at the 29th spot of the U.K. song chart, according to mid-week sales figures from the Official Charts Company. The track's position will not be confirmed until Sunday, November 30.

Fighting for the top spot of the U.K. Top 40 are Jason Orange's "These Days", which sold 351,000 copies so far, and the charity single "Do They Know It's Christmas" by various artists, which claimed the top spot last week.

"Mockingjay" director Francis Lawrence previously told RadioTimes.com that Lawrence was "horrified to sing," and that it was "her least favorite day" of shooting. The actress herself described her voice as "tone-deaf Amy Winehouse".

The song was a major factor in the film. As Katniss Everdeen, Lawrence sang it for the first time in District 12 and then for the propaganda videos. The song was played again in the movie's end credit. Readers of the book know that it was a dark song Katniss' father taught her before he died.
