The young star is in final talks to join the Disney franchise in a role equivalent to Orlando Bloom's.

AceShowbiz - "The Giver" star Brenton Thwaites is joining Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise. Nabbing a key role, he will star opposite Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush in "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales".

Thwaites, who also starred in Disney's "Maleficent", is in final negotiations to play a British soldier named Henry. The character is described as equivalent to Orlando Bloom's Will Turner in previous films.

Depp returns as Jack Sparrow while Rush reprises his role as Barbossa. Javier Bardem was in talks to play the villain, "a ghost bent on revenge against Capt. Jack Sparrow, who he holds responsible for the murder of his brother." He is also "searching for a supernatural object to aid him."

Ansel Elgort's name was once mentioned along with Thwaites' as potential actor to play Sparrow's sidekick. Now that the deal with Thwaites is near, the film will be ready to start shooting next year for five months in Australia.

Directed by Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg, "Pirates 5" will arrive in the U.S. on July 7, 2017.
