Jimmy Fallon's 'Lip Sync Battle' Turned Into TV Series on Spike TV

Fallon, John Krasinski and Stephen Merchant will executive produce and appear on the show that will debut in April.

AceShowbiz - One of favorite segments on Jimmy Fallon's "Late Night" and "Tonight Show" will be turned into a new TV series. Spike TV has picked up "Lip Sync Battle" series based on Fallon's regular late-night bit which features celebrities going head to head and lip synching the song of their choice.

Fallon, John Krasinski and Stephen Merchant will executive produce the series. They will also appear and perform on the show. Taping is scheduled to begin January in New York for a Thursday, April 2, 2015 premiere. Also executive producing the series are Rick Schwartz of Fallon's Eight Million Plus, Jay Peterson of Matador, and Casey Patterson, EVP, Talent Development and Production, Viacom Entertainment Group.

"Lip-sync battling is one of the coolest things happening in pop culture right now and already has a huge fan base thanks to the amazing talent involved," Patterson said. "We're thrilled to be in business with producers as talented as Jimmy, John and Stephen as Spike broadens its programming in new and exciting ways."

Fallon announced the news on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" Thursday night, November 20 during an interview with Merchant, who claimed to only be recognized for his lip sync skills.

Host and celebrities set to compete on the upcoming series will be announced later. Stars who had performed on "Lip Sync Battle" on Fallon's "Late Night" and "Tonight Show" include Emma Stone, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani.
