AceShowbiz - The "Pitch Perfect" gang are back. First trailer of "Pitch Perfect 2" was released on Thursday, November 20 to give a look at the returning cast members such as Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson as well as the new faces such as Katey Sagal and Hailee Steinfeld.
The sequel follows Fat Amy and Beca through their senior year at Barden University. They find themselves competing in the World Championships of A Capella, an Olympic-style competition that no American team has ever won.
The trailer begins with a somber version of "Cups" and continues with the preview of the fierce championships. Competitors include a German A Capella group who is good with trash talking and an Alpha male group featuring Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews III and former NFL player Jordan Rodgers.
"No American team has ever won," says Elizabeth Banks who plays commentator Gail Abernathy-McKadden. Banks is also a director for the sequel after serving as producer for the first film.
"It's a big responsibility, but I was really excited to take it on and try to do it confidently," she told ABC News. "[The original] was lightning in a bottle and it was such a surprise to see how the movie was received. The whole 'Cups' phenomenon was a surprise to all of us. It came from the authenticity of the movie, and this time around we were really aiming to do that again and be pure in our intention to tell more of the story of these characters that people have fallen in love with."
"Pitch Perfect" became a sleeper hit in 2012 after grossing $64.5 million in the United States.
