'Casino Royale' Helmer Martin Campbell Eyed to Direct 'G.I. Joe 3'
Movie

The third installment of the 'G.I. Joe' movie franchise could be Campbell's comeback effort after critically-panned 'Green Lantern'.

AceShowbiz - "G.I. Joe 3" may be close to finding its director. According Schmoes Know, "Casino Royale" director Martin Campbell becomes the top choice to helm the third installment. It will become his first big-screen project since 2011's critically-panned "Green Lantern".

Jonathan Lemkin ("The Devil's Advocate", "Shooter") is hired to write the screenplay drafted by Evan Daugherty ("Divergent", "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles"). Production is set to begin in 2015 for a 2016 release. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is expected to reprise his role.

"The last movie was really the set up, in a way, for Roadblock to take over," producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura once explained. "Dwayne came aboard a little late last time so we weren't able to do everything I think we can do this time, and really get a story that services what the audience expects out of him, and also as an actor pushes him into areas that you wouldn't normally explore in a big franchise movie perhaps. We have not talked about any other cast or anything, because we really need a story to be completely signed off by everybody."
