Universal Swoops in After Sony Dropped Danny Boyle's Steve Jobs Biopic

The upcoming Steve Jobs movie won't likely be left in limbo after Sony let it go since Universal is keen to take it over.

AceShowbiz - Danny Boyle's Steve Jobs biopic is changing home. According to Deadline, Universal shows strong interest in locking down the project after Sony put it into turnaround. The latter reportedly has given the takeover a green light, and the deal is expected to be closed very soon.

There is no official word on why Sony dropped the new untitled Steve Jobs biopic, but the movie about the late Apple co-founder suffered several setbacks when it lost its major potential main actor more than once. There was also a change in the directing seat.

Leonardo DiCaprio was first attached to headline the pic, but he left. Christian Bale was later confirmed to tackle the lead role before he too departed. Michael Fassbender has since been linked to the coveted role, but no official confirmation has been made.

Before Boyle is tapped as the helmer, David Fincher was set to serve behind the lens but he left due to control issues. Aaron Sorkin is enlisted to write the screenplay for the anticipated film based on the best-selling Steve Jobs biography penned by Walter Isaacson.

In a recent interview with The Independent, Sorkin insisted the movie was not a biopic or a "cradle-to-grave" story. "With 'The Social Network', I was interested in the psychology of the world's most successful social networking system being invented by the world's most anti-social guy. And in the case of Steve Jobs, it's the relationships he had - particularly with his daughter, Lisa - that drew me to it," he explained.

"She didn't participate in Walter Isaacson's book, because her father was alive at the time, and she didn't want to alienate either of her parents, so I was very grateful that she was willing to spend time with me," Sorkin continued. "She is the heroine of the movie."

Steve Jobs initially denied paternity of his daughter before they later reconnected. No actress has been linked to the daughter role, but Jessica Chastain is rumored being in talks for an unspecified role. Seth Rogen is in negotiations to portray Steve Wozniak, who founded Apple with the late Jobs.
