Djimon Hounsou in Talks for Merlin Role in Guy Ritchie's 'King Arthur'
Movie

Guy Ritchie has found a new Merlin for 'Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur' in the Korath depicter of 'Guardians of the Galaxy'.

AceShowbiz - Guy Ritchie is zeroing in on Djimon Hounsou for a pivotal role in his movie "Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur". Variety learns that the two-time Oscar nominee is in negotiations to play a character described as "a Merlin-esque figure who trains and mentors Arthur."

Idris Elba was previously up for the role, but the talks fell through. "Sons of Anarchy" actor Charlie Hunnam is attached to play Arthur, Astrid Berges-Frisbey is cast as his love interest Guinevere, and Jude Law is expected to take on the villainous role.

The plot is still under wraps, but the film is scheduled for July 22, 2016 release. Joby Harold ("Awake") writes the screenplay. The project is expected to launch a new franchise for Warner Bros. with a rumored six-movie take on the classic story being planned.

Richie is currently finishing "The Man from U.N.C.L.E.", due January 16, 2015 with Armie Hammer and Henry Cavill on the lead roles. Hounsou, meanwhile, will next be seen in "Seventh Son" and "Furious 7" after his role in "Guardians of the Galaxy".
