Steve McQueen to Helm Paul Robeson Biopic, Peter Berg to Direct Joaquin Guzman Film
Movie

The '12 Years a Slave' helmer will make a movie about the real-life civil rights activist, while the 'Lone Survivor' director plans fact-based 'The Hunt for El Chapo'.

AceShowbiz - Steve McQueen and Peter Berg are doing more true story pics after coming off award fares "12 Years a Slave" and "Lone Survivor" respectively last year. Steve is developing a movie about real-life actor, singer, and Civil Rights activist Paul Robeson. He announced his next project at the Hidden Heroes Awards in New York.

"It was about this black guy who was in Wales and was singing with these miners," he recalled the first time he discovered Robeson. "I was about 14 years old, and not knowing who Paul Robeson was, this black American in Wales, it seemed strange. So then, of course, I just found out that this man was an incredible human being."

Peter, meanwhile, is looking to adapt a New Yorker article about the true-story hunt of drug cartel leader Joaquin Guzman. The criminal was imprisoned in the early 1990s, but escaped. He was re-captured February this year during an operation that involved the Mexican Navy, the DEA, and the U.S. Marshals. Titled "The Hunt for El Chapo", the film is scripted by "Dallas Buyers Club" co-writer Craig Borten.
