More accomplished young actresses like Hailee Steinfeld are eyed for the young Jean Grey role, while newbies such as Ben Hardy are wanted for the young Cyclops.

AceShowbiz - As "X-Men: Apocalypse" is expected to begin production early next year, the search for actors to be added to the star-studded ensemble begins. "Kick-Ass" heroine Chloe Moretz, "Maleficent" princess Elle Fanning, and "Interstellar" star Timothee Chalamet are among the candidates.

According to The Wrap, Moretz and Fanning are circling the role of young Jean Grey along with Hailee Steinfeld. Chalamet, meanwhile, is reportedly competing against Ben Hardy ("EastEnders") and Charlie Rowe ("Red Band Society") to portray young Cyclops in the upcoming eighth installment of the mutant franchise.

Storm is also expected to be recast, but no candidate has been mentioned so far. Halle Berry, James Marsden and Famke Janssen originally played Storm, Cyclops and Jean Grey respectively in the first three "X-Men" films. They all returned to reprise their roles in "X-Men: Days of Future Past" this year. A younger Jean Grey was previously played by Haley Ramm in the third movie, "X-Men: The Last Stand", in 2006.

The upcoming movie is due in the U.S. on May 27, 2016. The recast is needed because " 'Apocalypse' takes place a good 20 years before 'X1', which now insanely was 10 to 15 years ago," explained Producer/writer Simon Kinberg.

Bryan Singer who directed the first two installments in the franchise and then returned for "Days of Future Past" is back behind the lens. James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Hugh Jackman, Nicholas Hoult and Evan Peters are back as Charles Xavier, Magneto, Mystique, Wolverine, Beast and Quicksilver. Tom Hardy is reportedly eyed to portray the main baddie.
