CGI Not Used to Complete Philip Seymour Hoffman's Parts in 'Mockingjay'
Movie

To create a fake imagery of the late actor 'would have been catastrophic', the film's director Francis Lawrence said.

AceShowbiz - The filming of "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1" film was not yet done when Philip Seymour Hoffman died on February 2 this year. Producers were left scrambled for solution to finish the movie but opted out CGI and stand-ins.

Hoffman had two scenes with dialogue left to shoot for the two-part films. While "Furious 7" used technology and Paul Walker's brothers after the actor's death, producers of "Mockingjay" decided that the best move was to rewrite Hoffman's part. The decision was not a hard one, surprisingly.

"He had two scenes with dialogue that were left and we decided we didn't want to try any digital trickery with him, so we rewrote his scenes and gave the dialogue to other actors," director Francis Lawrence told Huffington Post, adding, "I just think to try to fake a Philip Seymour Hoffman performance would have been catastrophic and I would never want to do that."

Lawrence also praised the late actor's performance quality, saying, "He was constantly sort of grinding away at a scene and was able to dig down and down and down, deeper and really find the dynamics of the relationships that he's in. And then once you've done that process then you don't really need many takes at all with him."

"The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1" hits U.S. theaters November 21. Hoffman stars as Plutarch Heavensbee, the Capitol's former game master who joins one of the rebels in "Mockingjay".
