Leonardo DiCaprio Eyed for Male Lead Role in Jennifer Lawrence's 'Joy'
Movie

Director David O. Russell is reportedly revising the script to make the main male character more interesting to the 'Wolf of Wall Street' star.

AceShowbiz - Leonardo DiCaprio may join Jennifer Lawrence in Joy Mangano biopic. In the latest issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine, it's revealed that "The Wolf of Wall Street" actor has expressed fleeting interest to star in the true-story drama to be helmed by David O. Russell.

Rumor has it, Russell is currently reworking the script originally drafted by Annie Mumolo ("Bridesmaids") to make a male lead role more enticing to DiCaprio. The director is also expanding the small role of a QVC executive for his frequent collaborator Bradley Cooper.

On top of that, Russell is eying to get Robert De Niro, who along with Lawrence and Cooper previously starred in his movie "Silver Linings Playbook". De Niro has reportedly entered negotiations to play Mangano's father, but is still waiting for Lawrence to finalize her deal.

The actress is having busy days. After finishing "The Hunger Games" saga, she is expected to film "X-Men: Apocalypse" where she will reprise her role as Mystique. Despite her hectic schedule, she remains committed to Russell and has reportedly turned down The Weinstein Co.'s offer to star in Chris Terrio-penned script "The Ends of the Earth".

"Joy" is tentatively set for a Christmas Day 2015 release, just in time for next year's awards race. Lawrence won Best Actress title at the Academy Awards for her role in 2012's "Silver Linings" and earned an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress, thanks to 2013's "American Hustle" also directed by Russell.
