The Cranberries singer has since been released after being detained by police at Shannon Airport in Ireland on suspicion of assaulting an air hostess on a flight from New York on Monday morning.

AceShowbiz - The Cranberries' singer Dolores O'Riordan was arrested at Shannon Airport in Ireland on Monday morning, November 10. The female rocker allegedly assaulted a female flight attendant on an overnight flight from JFK, New York to Ireland and was detained by cops as soon as the plane landed.

O'Riordan reportedly caused a ruckus in the business class shortly before the plane landed. Reports say the flight attendant told the singer to retake her seat, but O'Riordan lashed out and struck the cabin crew member. The air hostess was said suffering a foot injury and was taken to the Mid-West Regional hospital in Limerick for treatment, but did not need medical care.

A passenger who was sitting in economy tells the Irish Independent, "There was a woman standing up and she was shouting. It was about 20 minutes before landing but to be honest, we didn't think much of it at first. It quietened down for a while and after landing it started again."

A Garda spokesman confirms this, saying, "Gardai were called to meet the aircraft following an allegation of an assault on a female Aer Lingus air hostess. A Garda was also assaulted during the course of the arrest."

Authorities say O'Riordan head-butted a cop who tried to arrest her. At the police station, she claimed that she was feeling ill. She was later transferred to hospital but has since been released from hospital into the care of her family. No charges were filed as investigation into the incident continues.

A spokesman for Aer Lingus tells The Guardian, "An incident took place on board flight EI110 en route from New York to Shannon today. The matter is being investigated by An Garda Siochana. As this is a security matter we will not comment any further."
