'Nightcrawler' Slightly Wins Against 'Ouija' on Weekend Box Office

According to box office predictions, the Jake Gyllenhaal movie thriller won only by thousands of dollars against the horror movie.

AceShowbiz - It was a tight race between "Nightcrawler" and "Ouija" on the U.S. weekend box office *with the former winning the position by mere thousand dollars. "Nightcrawler" earned $10,909,000 while "Ouija" ended up with a $10,900,240 projected total.

"This is a photo-finish, a dead heat, this rarely happens," says Paul Dergarabedian, box office analyst for Rentrak. "We'll see how this all shakes out. We're taking about a difference of less than $10,000 here, which is pretty remarkable." The final numbers will be revealed on Monday, November 3.

It is a huge win for "Nightcrawler" which was made on an $8.5 million budget. "We are excited about it," CMO of Open Road Films, Jason Cassidy, told EW. "It's a great movie and it's been so well reviewed. We think we'll have a nice run on it."

"Ouija" has accumulated $35 million after opening with $20 million and taking the first place last weekend. At the third place, "Fury" held strong with approximately $9.1 million, followed by "Gone Girl" with an estimated $8.8 million. "The Book of Life" rounded up the top 5 with approximately $8.3 million.

*UPDATE (Nov. 4, 2014): When the final figures came out, it was revealed that "Ouija" took in $10.7 million. The horror movie eventually won the race by sheer $300,000, prompting "Nightcrawler" to take the runner-up position.
