'American Hustle' Sued Over Microwave Dialog
Movie

Paul Brodeur files a complaint in Los Angeles Superior Court, saying that his reputation is damaged after the movie attributed his name to a 'scientifically unsupportable statement.'

AceShowbiz - "American Hustle" has been sued for defamation by a science journalist. The journalist named Paul Brodeur filed the complaint in Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday, October 28, saying that a "scientifically unsupportable statement" about microwaves in a dialog in the movie which is attributed to his name damaged his reputation.

"American Hustle", starring Christian Bale, Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and Amy Adams, received 10 nominations at the Oscars. One of the scenes shows Lawrence's character telling Bale's character that microwave takes nutrition from food. "Bulls**t," Bale's character says in response to her statement. Lawrence hits back, "It's not bulls**t. I read it in an article. Look, by Paul Brodeur."

Brodeur is now suing Columbia Pictures, Atlas Entertainment and Annapurna Pictures for libel, defamation, slander and false light. He is seeking $1 million in damage. "The scene from the movie 'American Hustle' where the defamatory statement was made is highly offensive to a reasonable person," read the document, as quoted by The Hollywood Reporter.

Earlier this year, Brodeur denied he made claim that microwaves take nutrition from food in a statement to Huffington Post. "I have never written in The New Yorker, where I was a staff writer for nearly forty years, or in any other magazine, or declared in any way that a microwave oven does any such thing," he wrote.
