The 35-year-old actress speaks out about ending her five-year marriage to Tom, saying, 'I don't want that moment in my life to define me, to be who I am.'

AceShowbiz - Katie Holmes opens up about her life after getting divorced from Tom Cruise. In an interview with PEOPLE, Katie says, "I don't want that moment in my life to define me, to be who I am. I don't want that to be what I'm known as. I was an actor before, an actor during and an actor now."

She shares to the publication her three-part mantra which she says to herself these days, "I don't have any fear now, I don't have a lot of rules for myself and I don't take myself that seriously." Regarding her career, the "Dawson's Creek" alum says, "I feel ready for new challenges."

In the interview, Katie also talks about motherhood. She claims her life with her 8-year-old daughter Suri "means everything" to her. She adds, "I'm learning every day, and I have been since the minute I became a mom."

The "Jack and Jill" actress admits she has moments of self-doubt as a parent. "Am I enough? Am I doing enough? Have I seen her enough?" she says of the questions she asked to herself when raising Suri, "Guess what? You're not enough, she hasn't seen you enough, you're horrible: That's how it can feel sometimes."

She then adds, "You do the best you can. Some days you feel really good about yourself and some days you don't."

As a single parent, Katie reveals she often needs to rely on helps from her "girlfriends of all ages, who have children of all ages. I lean on them." She says, "So I do have help, yes, but it's your baby, you know? You want to be the one who is there."

She continues, "You really need to support each other, help people through whatever it is they're going through - whether it's 'My kid just threw a tantrum' or 'I was late for graduation' or whatever it is, you know!"

"I think we all need to just ease up," the "Batman Begins" actress adds, "Ease up on the expectations, and the worrying. We're all trying to do the best we can."
