A representative for Messing confirms that the star of 'The Starter Wife' and her 'Smash' co-star have decided to break up after nearly three years of dating.

AceShowbiz - Debra Messing and Will Chase have decided to call it quits after more than two years of dating. A representative for Messing confirmed the split on Monday, October 27. "Debra Messing and Will Chase have ended their two-and-a-half-year relationship, but remain close friends," the rep said.

The rep did not share more details regarding the couple's split, but a source told E! News that distance contributed to their separation. "The problems started when Will went from a recurring to a regular role on 'Nashville'. He's had to spend a lot more time down there," the source said.

"Debra, meanwhile, shoots her show all week here in NYC. It's sad because they really care about each other so much. They didn't want this to happen. But at the end of the day, their schedules and the distance truly got to be too much," the source continued.

A separate source additionally said that the star of "The Mysteries of Laura" apparently had a hard time juggling heavy work schedule and being a parent. "She is working long hours so her main priority when she has free time is to be with her son," the source claimed.

Messing and Chace started dating after meeting on the set of "Smash". Messing was previously married to Daniel Zelman before separating, while Chace split from his wife Stephanie Gibson.
