Benedict Cumberbatch in Final Talks to Star in 'Dr. Strange'
Movie

The actor previously said he could not work out a schedule to star in the Marvel superhero movie but kept his fingers crossed.

AceShowbiz - It eventually came back to Benedict Cumberbatch. Marvel Studios reportedly is in final talks with the "Sherlock" actor to have him star as the doctor-turned-sorcerer-supreme in superhero film "Dr. Strange".

Cumberbatch's name popped up as one of the contenders for the lead role back in July, but the actor played coy when asked about the rumors. "As far as I'm aware, even if that was the case, it couldn't work out because I'm doing a little play called 'Hamlet' in London. So I don't think I could even if that was in the cards. It sounds like a fantastic project. It's a shame if I miss out, but who knows?" he said.

It looks like he's figured out a schedule that would work with the filming of "Dr. Strange". Marvel has not announced a production start date but the film is eying a July 8, 2016 release. Scott Derrickson is directing. Cumberbatch's casting is expected to be announced in a secret press event on Tuesday, October 28 at Disney's El Capitan Theater.

The film previously had several other names as potential actors. Joaquin Phoenix was a frontrunner but he backed out due to scheduling conflicts and reportedly was reluctant to jump into a big franchise. Jared Leto, Ethan Hawke, Oscar Isaac and Colin Farrell were only a few of those who joined the shorlist.
