The 'Zero Dark Thirty' actress and the 'Bridesmaids' leading lady are in negotiations to join Matt Damon in the 'Gravity'-esque film.

AceShowbiz - Jessica Chastain and Kristen Wiig are in contention to join Ridley Scott's next project "The Martian". The two actresses are in talks to play the leading lady opposite Matt Damon. Rumor has it, Chastain's chance to land the role is bigger than Wiig's.

The film follows an astronaut who becomes stranded on Mars and must figure out how to survive long enough to return to Earth. The "Cast Away" meets "Gravity" story is scripted by Drew Goddard based on Andy Weir's e-book of the same name.

Scott is currently finishing his biblical film "Exodus: Gods and Kings" starring Christian Bale. He is also developing a "Blade Runner" sequel. Chastain's next films include "Interstellar", "Miss Julie", and "Crimson Peak". Wiig, meanwhile, is attached to "Sausage Party" and "How to Train Your Dragon 3".
