The former 'Piers Morgan Live' host says he declined the offer to renew his contract in order to 'try pastures new.'

AceShowbiz - Piers Morgan no longer works for CNN. The British host, 49, announced his departure from the network on Twitter, saying that he was offered a new deal by the network's boss but didn't take it because he wanted to do something new.

"BREAKING NEWS: I am no longer a @CNN employee," he began. "I was offered a new 2-year deal by @CNN boss Jeff Zucker to host 40 big interview 'specials'. But after considerable thought, I decided not to accept it - and to try pastures new."

Morgan says there is no bad blood between him and the network in his departure. "I had a fantastic time in my 4 years @CNN and have huge respect for Jeff & all the people who work there. Great company, great network," he posted.

Morgan joined CNN in 2010 when he took over the 9 P.M. primetime slot from Larry King. The replacement was met with criticisms including from the "Larry King Live" host himself. During his tenure, he was very open about his support for stricter gun law in the United States.

"I wouldn't crack the champagne open too quickly though," he joked after announcing his exit from CNN. "@NRA - I haven't finished with you lot yet."
