The groom's mother reportedly threw a 'farewell barbecue' party for the newly-married couple at her home in Greenwich, Conn. one day after Simpson and Ross tied the knot.

AceShowbiz - One day after Ashlee Simpson and Evan Ross' wedding, the groom's mother Diana Ross held a party for the newlyweds. According to Page Six, the "farewell barbecue" took place at the veteran singer's estate in Greenwich, Conn. on Monday, September 1. A source said the bash which had a "lavish bohemian theme" was "for close friends and family" only.

The source additionally shared that she heard the bride saying that "she and Evan were 'meant to be' and, 'Diana is a wonderful mother.' " The groom agreed with the sentiment. He reportedly said that his mother took part in "every part of our wedding."

Simpson and Ross exchanged vows in front of a number of friends and family members on Sunday. Simpson's 5-year-old son Bronx walked her down the aisle. Her sister Jessica Simpson who recently got married to Eric Johnson (II) served as the matron of honor while her daughter Maxwell and son Ace served as the flower girl and the ring bearer.

The rain which suddenly fell on Sunday delayed the ceremony a bit. "They waited for the rain to stop, but it only added to the beauty of the property and ceremony," a source told PEOPLE. Diana later sang "Endless Love" for the guests. "When Diana got up to sing at the reception, she surprised everyone, even her kids! he was the only one on the dance floor and everyone rushed to see her," the source said.

This is the first marriage for Ross and the second for Simpson. She previously was married to Pete Wentz from 2008 until 2011.
