Report: Charlie Hunnam Eyed for 'Escape from New York' Remake

Producer reportedly has ordered a pre-production artwork featuring the 'Sons of Anarchy' actor as Snake Plissken.

AceShowbiz - "Escape from New York" remake is reportedly looking for the right actor to play a new Snake Plissken. According to Starlog, Charlie Hunnam who is linked to Guy Ritchie's "Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur" and is expected to return for Ridley Scott's "Prometheus" sequel is among stars in the wish list.

The site reports Hunnam is facing competition from Jon Bernthal ("The Walking Dead") and Dan Stevens ("The Guest"). Moreover, Silver Pictures allegedly has commissioned independent artists to create pre-production artwork featuring the "Sons of Anarchy" actor as the one-eyed antihero.

Featuring a mix of old and new characters, the reboot reportedly will be "more team-based, as Snake Plissken traverses through a treacherous New York landscape with a rogues gallery of criminals who look to leave the island-turned-prison in exchange for the rescue of the captured U.S. President."

"Plissken's team consists of Mina, a warzone journalist framed for murder and living in the shadows of New York as a scavenger; Cabbie, a schizophrenic travel guide who serves as comic relief; Gareth, the last surviving member of the President's security detail who harbors a dangerous secret; and The Brain, Plissken's former partner-in-crime who left him to die after a botched robbery."

Previous rumor suggested producer planned to turn the material into a trilogy with the first film telling an origin story. However, Starlog claims the origin story elements will be tuned down, "Snake's past will be seen in brief glimpses throughout the film, blending into his reality via Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder."

Joel Silver of Silver Pictures once said the remake would be inspired by video game "Batman: Arkham City". No director has been attached to the long-delayed project.
