Anthony and Joe Russo also address what new characters they will bring into the third film and the possible returns of Hawkeye and the Winter Soldier.

Anthony and Joe Russo discussed what's in store next for Steve Rogers in "Captain America 3". In a chat with Collider as part of press tour before "" Blu-ray arrives, the Russo brothers talked about many things including whether or not ' character hands over the mantle to another character.

Anthony said, "Even though there's sort of a grand plan of things, Kevin Feige also has this awesome attitude of one movie at a time, which I think is very healthy, not to get too far ahead of yourself. And I think even though we can see in the distant horizon some contracts coming to an end and whatnot, and sort of wondering about what happens, I think the truth is, we're not close enough to it to really be addressing it on a narrative level yet."

Joe chimed in, "When Bucky takes over the mantle at the end of Cap 3 [turns to Anthony] did I just ...[laughs] Did I just say that?" He joked, "I meant to say Falcon. Falcon takes over the mantle at the end of Cap 3. It's a process that, you know, you have to tell the best story that you can now and the contract issue's not necessarily something that we're worried all that much about."

Joe also responded to 's hint that he would appear the third film. "I was gonna say Renner might be misremembering because he was supposed to be in Cap 2 but we couldn't make his schedule work [laughs]. Maybe that's what he's talking about. It's certainly difficult. Everyone involved in these films are all movie stars, and a lot of that has to do with the fact that they're in Marvel movies, so all of their schedules are booked up. It does become very complicated."

While playing coy about Hawkeye, Joe seemed to confirm the return of Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier. He told Movies.com in a separate interview, "The relationship between Cap and the Winter Soldier was never resolved at the end of the last movie. Thinking about where that relationship can go is a piece of the puzzle for us for sure."

"That character is a wonderfully, beautifully tragic figure in the sense of is he the world's most feared assassin or is he the world's longest serving POW. Is he innocent by reason of insanity or the equivalent of it because he's been mind controlled or is he irredeemable? Is he ever going to be acceptable to Cap again as the friend that he used to be before he was the Winter Soldier? These are very philosophical, emotional questions that pique our interest and definitely form one layer of the next movie."

Anthony, meanwhile, teased, "We just got another incredible draft from the writers and are very excited about the film. I can't divulge who is going to be in the film, but I think the fans are going to freak out when they hear about it."

When asked by MTV News in a separate chat whether they would bring closure to this particular story, Anthony said, "[Whether this is the end] is a hard question to answer because it gets to the specific of where the narratives are going. I will say this: yes, for satisfying storytelling, you want a beginning, middle and end. That's the natural arc that we all thrive off of in narrative."
