Nick Cannon Confirms Separation From His Wife Mariah Carey
Nick Cannon confirms "there is trouble in paradise" amidst rumors that a divorce is imminent between him and his wife of six years, Mariah Carey. "We have been living in separate houses for a few months," the "America's Got Talent" host revealed to The Insider With Yahoo.
Nick, 33, didn't specify the reason why they grew apart, but he denied infidelity rumor. "My main focus is my kids," he said of their 3-year-old twins, Moroccan and Monroe.
Rumor has it, 44-year-old Mariah flipped out after Nick revealed a list of his past lovers during a candid interview with Power 106 radio. "Are you kidding me this is L.A.? That's the whole purpose of it, you have sex with actresses, singers, models," he said back then.
'That's easy. OK, Mariah Carey, Christina Milian, Nicole Scherzinger, Selita Ebanks, oh, Kim Kardashian," he said when asked to name five of the famous women he had bedded. Of Kim, he quipped, "You just forgot (about her) because there have been a lot of people since me."
Mariah reportedly felt "humiliated" by the interview during which he also revealed when he first had sex with her. He said they waited until their wedding night to do it.
In an interview a week later, Nick tried to backtrack on his comments and praised his wife. "She doesn't even know who Kim Kardashian is. She doesn't pay attention to that," he said. "She doesn't care when I talk about our sex life because our sex life is amazing."
Nick's TMI interview was not the only problem that reportedly rocked his marriage with the singer. His hectic schedule also played a part in their separation. "They have been living apart for a while. This is not all of a sudden. There have been issues between them for a while. They are not getting along," a source told E! News.
"She wants to end it and it has been in the works for months, which is why her house in the Bahamas and the house in Bel Air are on the market," the insider claimed.
The pair allegedly has separated since May. At the time, he denied the rumor to Parade, "You kind of have to ignore it because every week it's something different. And if you paid attention to it, it actually probably would start really affecting you. There's no merit or truth to it. It's kind of humorous, really. It couldn't be further off from the truth, and it really affects the credibility of the so-called newspapers."
Nick and Mariah married in the Bahamas in April 2008 after just six weeks of dating. A divorce is reportedly "a done deal" after the two negotiate a property settlement and custody agreement.
The couple renewed their vows in lavish ceremonies every year except for their most recent anniversary which they claimed was celebrated in a low-key event. They last put on a united front on Twitter for Father's Day in June, and he gave a shout-out to his wife at the BET Awards in July.
