The two singers, who are nominated for 'Really Don't Care' and 'MMM Yeah' videos respectively, will battle fellow nominees 5 Seconds of Summer, Katy Perry and Ariana Grande.

AceShowbiz - Demi Lovato and Austin Mahone have just been added to the list of nominees of the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards. The two singers are among stars vying for a Moonman in the newly-announced Best Lyric Video category.

Lovato is nominated for her "Really Don't Care" clip while Mahone gets the nod for the 70s-themed video of his Pitbull-assisted "MMM Yeah". The pop stars are pitted against 5 Seconds of Summer ("Don't Stop"), Katy Perry ("Birthday") and Ariana Grande ("Problem") .

"Lyrics are as important to music fans as ever, and the evolution of lyric videos is evidence of that," MTV's executive vice president of music and talent programming strategy Amy Doyle told Mashable of the new VMA category. "As we started discussing new categories for this year's show we immediately gravitated to celebrating the emerging art form of the lyric video."

Fans may vote for their favorite by using the hashtags #vote5sos, #votearianagrande, #voteaustinmahone, #votedemilovato or #votekatyperry on Twitter, Instagram and Vine. The winner, along with winners of other VMA categories, will be revealed in the ceremony set to air on MTV on August 24 from the Forum in Inglewood, California.
