AceShowbiz - The Lonely Island is getting their own movie. Variety reports that Universal Picture has acquired the untitled The Lonely Island project that will star the comedy trio consisting of Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone.
Schaffer and Taccone are also set to co-direct the project based on the script they co-write with fellow member Samberg. Judd Apatow ("Knocked Up" and "The 40 Year-Old Virgin") will serve as a producer alongside the group while Universal's Erik Baiers is overseeing the project for the studio.
According to Variety, the film is set to take place somewhere "in the world of music." There's still no word on when the film will begin production.
The Lonely Island rose to fame for their involvement on "Saturday Night Live". Samberg starred on the hit comedy show while Schaffer and Taccone were writers. The trio released an album called "Incredibad" in 2009 and another one titled "The Wack Album" last year.
Samberg, who currently stars on "Brooklyn Nine-Nine", recently appeared in "That's My Boy" and "Grown Ups 2".
