Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci will produce films based on the popular book series about bloodsucker Lestat de Lioncourt.

AceShowbiz - The existing and future novels in Anne Rice's "The Vampire Chronicles" series are safely secured by Universal and Imagine Entertainment. The companies have struck a juicy deal with Rice's estate to access the entire library of her series that center around 18th Century French nobleman-turned-vampire Lestat de Lioncourt.

The deal will allow Universal and Imagine to access the upcoming 11th book "Prince Lestat" which hits the shelves this October. In addition, they get the rights to the screenplay of "The Tale of the Body Thief" by Rice's son, author Christopher Rice.

Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci will produce the films based on the book series. Imagine President Erica Huggins will oversee the series on behalf of the company while Bobby Cohen will executive produce.

Some of Rice's books had made it to the big screen before. Rival Warner Bros. produced 1994's "Interview with the Vampire" as well as 2000's "Queen of the Damned".
