The daughter of Brian Williams says the role is 'a dream come true,' while her 'Girls' co-star Lena Dunham is proud that 'Allison is about to undertake one of the greatest drag roles in history.'

AceShowbiz - NBC has found its Peter Pan. Allison Williams, who rose to prominence since starring as Marnie Michaels on HBO's comedy "Girls", has landed the title role in the network's next live production. She joins Christopher Walken, who was previously cast as Captain Hook, in "The Sound of Music Live!" follow-up which is due December 4.

"I have wanted to play Peter Pan since I was about three years old, so this is a dream come true," the actress said in a statement. "It's such an honor to be a part of this adventure, and I'm very excited to get to work with this extraordinarily talented team. And besides, what could go wrong in a live televised production with simultaneous flying, sword fighting and singing?"

NBC chief Robert Greenblatt commented on Williams' casting, "We couldn't be happier that Allison Williams is our Peter Pan. She's a lovely rising star on the award-winning show 'Girls'-where she occasionally shows off her incredible vocal talent-and we think she will bring the perfect blend of 'boyish' vulnerability and bravado to save the day against Christopher Walken's powerful Captain Hook."

"Peter Pan Live" executive producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron also gushed, "Allison Williams is a major find. She will reinvent the iconic role of Peter Pan with her wit, her warmth, her dynamic flying and her wonderful musical abilities. The score will be sung beautifully and introduced to a whole new generation of families."

"Girls" creator and star Lena Dunham is also supportive about Williams' casting in the live musical production. She tweeted after learning of the news, "Allison is about to undertake one of the greatest drag roles in history and we are so proud we could burst. She will slay."

Williams, the daughter of "NBC Nightly News" anchor Brian Williams, has proven her skill as a singer. Besides singing in some "Girls" scenes, she recorded several songs for the sitcom soundtrack. In 2010, she also performed a mashup of "Nature Boy" set to RJD2's "A Beautiful Mine", the theme song for AMC's series "Mad Men", in a YouTube video which has received more than 1 million views.
