Series creator Kurt Sutter says that 'conversations are ongoing' about the 'Sons' prequel, but nothing has been decided yet whether it will be a full series or a miniseries.

AceShowbiz - An impending ending and a possible new beginning were discussed during "Sons of Anarchy" panel at the Comic-Con International on Sunday, July 27. Lead actor Charlie Hunnam was absent because he's "doing important service for Vogue magazine," so series creator Kurt Sutter explained.
But Hunnam appeared in a hilarious video mocking his fashion photo session. In the clip, he was being massaged and manicured by other cast members. "This is the seventh season of the show. For a show to stay on the air that long requires the massive support of our fans," he said, before scolding Kim Coates, Boone Junior and Tommy Flanagan for not treating him appropriately.
Meanwhile, in the opening sequence played before the audience at Comic-Con, Jax is seen beating out a man in jail. The violent scene shows that Jax is more ruthless than he's ever been as Dayton Callie reacted to the scene, "That just scared the hell out of me."
Sutter explained Jax's state in the upcoming seventh and final season, "This season will be the most proactive for Jax. He's driven, with a singular purpose. Rather than being a reactor to chaos, he will be the inciter. It's almost like writing a brand new character." He added, "I know where I want my hero to be emotionally and thematically at the end of the season," although he's currently writing episode seven of the last 13 episodes.
As for Gemma who stabbed her son's wife to death, Katey Sagal said, "She's going to be even more multilayered this season as she tries to hold it together, in the name of protecting her family one last time. As you'll see as the season progresses, what transpires from that somewhat pure motivation just goes awry. But you'll see a lot of different colors. She's more dimensional than ever before."
Sutter also talked about the possible follow-up to "Sons". Insisting that "there'll be no spin-offs" because he thought "spin-offs work well on procedural dramas, which this clearly is not," he said of the potential prequel, "Conversations are ongoing." He went on revealing that it would "be about origins, and involve John Teller and Piney Winston," but noting that nothing had yet been decided, including whether it would be a full series or just a miniseries.
While the show is nearing its end, the story will live on as a new novel titled "Sons of Anarchy: Bratva" is coming in November. Sutter said the events in the book, which follows Jax, Opie, and Chibs in another Russian-centric storyline, "will live in our mythology but not impact things that happened [on the show]."
