Movie

The British actor portrays mathematician and computer scientist Alan Turing who played a big role in breaking Germany's secret codes.

AceShowbiz - The first trailer of "The Imitation Game" shows Benedict Cumberbatch pulling all strings as British mathematician and computer scientist Alan Turing. The movie covers Turin's entire life, particularly the period when he worked hard to help break Germany's "Enigma" code during World War II.

Directed by Norwegian helmer Morten Tyldum, "Imitation Game" also stars Keira Knightley, Mark Strong and Matthew Goode. Screenwriter Graham Moore made his feature debut in the drama, writing it based on the biography "Alan Turing: The Enigma" by Andrew Hodges. His script landed at the top of the 2011 Black List.

The movie also covers the time Turing was prosecuted for homosexuality under an 1885 law and was forced to participate in a humiliating treatment program. Turing was found dead in 1954 at the age of 41. An inquest determined that he had committed suicide, but it remained a mystery.

"The Imitation Game" will open the 58th BFI London Film Festival on October 8 at Odeon Leicester Square. Cumberbatch, Knightley and Tyldum are expected to walk the red carpet. TWC will release the movie in the U.S. on November 21.
