Her mother said the actress had been suffering from seizures in the past few days and thought that she choked in her sleep.

AceShowbiz - Hollywood lost one of its young actresses. Skye McCole Bartusiak, who is best known as Mel Gibson's youngest daughter in 2000's "The Patriot", passed away at the age of 21.
Bartusiak died on Saturday, July 19 at her home in Houston. Cause of death is still unknown but reports said she died in her sleep. Her mother Helen confirmed the death to CNN, saying, "We lost our girl. She was a kind and really beautiful girl."
Helen said Skye was having epileptic seizures in recent days, a condition that she had suffered since she was a baby. Her boyfriend found her sitting up in her bed in the garage apartment next to her parents' home. "We think she had a seizure and choked and nobody was there," Helen explained.
Helen performed CPR before paramedics arrived. "I've done CPR on that kid more than one time and it just didn't work this time," she said. The paramedics then tried to resuscitate her for 45 minutes but could not get a heartbeat.
Skye also had roles as a child actor in "The Cider House Rules" and "Don't Say a Word". Her last movie was indie thriller "Sick Boy" in 2012.
