The 'Avengers' director shares his thoughts on the matter by posting a picture of Katee Sackhoff as Starbuck in 'Battlestar Galactica'.

AceShowbiz - Marvel's announcement of female Thor causes a buzz among fanboys and people in Hollywood circle. "The Avengers" director Joss Whedon and "Frozen (2013)" star Josh Gad are among public figures in the industry who have weighed in on the big news.

"A female Thor? What the hell makes them think THAT would be cool?" Whedon tweeted along with a picture of Katee Sackhoff who starred in "Battlestar Galactica" as Starbuck, an initial male character previously played by Dirk Benedict.

Gad, meanwhile, wrote, "Now little girls everywhere can say, 'when I grow up, I want to be Thor.' " Meanwhile, "Punisher: War Zone" helmer Lexi Alexander said, "Does that mean Thor will also be a woman in the movies? Gwendoline Christie! First! LOL."

The new "Thor" series is written by Jason Aaron and features an artwork by Russell Dauterman. "This is not She-Thor. This is not Lady Thor. This is not Thorita. This is THOR. This is the THOR of the Marvel universe. But it's unlike any Thor we've ever seen before," Aaron said.

The male Thor is currently played by Chris Hemsworth. He has appeared in two solo films, then united with the Earth's Mightiest Heroes in Whedon's "The Avengers", and will next pop up in the sequel "Avengers: Age of Ultron" due May 1, 2015.
