David Beckham, Rihanna, Mick Jagger Attend World Cup 2014 Closing Ceremony
Famous faces from the showbiz world attended the World Cup final match between the Germany and Argentina national team at the world-famous Maracana Stadium in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil on July 13. As Shakira took the stage as the headline act of the closing ceremony, the camera spotted the celebrities in the VIP rows. Among them were soccer legend/model David Beckham, R&B superstar Rihanna and rock star Mick Jagger.
Beckham attended the game with his three sons, Brooklyn, Cruz and Romeo. He donned a deep blue shirt and white T-shirt but his sons were all wearing Argentinian football attire. The former England midfielder had his hopes set on Argentina. "I love [Lionel] Messi as a footballer and as a friend so I'm rooting for Argentina," he said.
Meanwhile, Rihanna cheered enthusiastically from the crowd in a classic sports shirt and her temporary Brazilian flag tattoo. The "Pour It Up" singer posted an edited image on Twitter of her bending down in a German swimsuit and captioned it with, "For my German boys."
Jagger displayed his allegiance for the English national team despite an early exit in the tournament by wearing a red and white England cap. The 70-year-old musician was dressed in a purple dress shirt and dark coat. In an interview with FIFA.com prior to the game, the frontman of The Rolling Stones said that the game was "great" and "fantastic." He said, "It's been a great tournament I think. There's been a few surprises, which is what people like."
Previously, Jagger was accused for jinxing every team he supported. He's known in Brazil as Pe Frio, which translates literally as Cold Feet, a Brazilian term for a jinx. Superstitious Brazilian fans blamed him for the loss of their national team against the Germany. Mick Jagger denied the accusation. "OK, I take responsibility for the first German goal," he told NME, "but not the other six!"
Gisele Bundchen accompanied retired Spanish defender Carles Puyol carrying the precious World Cup Trophy onto the pitch of the Maracana Stadium before the final match began. Wearing a mint green and blue print mini dress, the Brazilian top model unveiled the trophy in its custom designed Louis Vitton case prior to the kick-off.
Previously, the Louis Vitton ambassador posted some images on her Instagram account showing her posing with the trophy. One of them was captioned with, "It's a great honor to represent my country and the people of Brazil in tomorrow's celebration. It's beautiful to see how sport has the power to bring the world together. I'm so grateful to be part of this moment. Thank you all Brazilians who have welcomed the world with all their joy and loving spirit. #proudofbeingbrazilian @louisvuitton."
The game ended with the Argentina losing to the Germany national team 0-1.
