Joan Rivers Officiates Impromptu Gay Wedding at Book Event

The comedienne proudly uploads a photo of the newly-married couple on Instagram, saying that a man asked her to marry him and his partner at her book signing event in New York.

AceShowbiz - Joan Rivers officiated an impromptu gay wedding at an event for her book "Diary of a Mad Diva" on Monday, June 30 in Barnes & Noble on Union Square. "It says in your book, you're an ordained minister. Can you marry me and my boyfriend?" a man unexpectedly said to Rivers in front of 400 audience, as reported by Page Six. Rivers said yes.

Someone then brought flowers for them and sang "The Wedding March". The next day, the couple, Jed Ryan and Joseph Aiello, went to the city's clerk office to obtain a marriage license for Rivers to sign.

The comedienne later took to social media to share a photo of the newly-married couple and congratulated them. "This really happened! At my Q&A/book-signing last night at Barnes & Noble in NYC, a man in the audience expressed his wish that I marry him and his partner," she wrote on Instagram. "What's a licensed ordained minister like myself to do? I married them right then and there. Congratulations Joe & Jed! #joanrivers."

She excitedly wrote on Twitter, "Performed a gay wedding at my book signing of DIARY OF A MAD DIVA. How great was that?!?"

The Monday event is not Rivers' first time officiating a wedding. In her book, the 81-year-old comedienne mentioned that she previously officiated the wedding of party planner Preston Bailey.
