July 1, 2014 (2:26 am) GMT
The cult comedy series will return with 13 new episodes on Yahoo! Screen in the fall.

"" is brought back for another season by Yahoo. Series creator Dan Harmon has announced that Yahoo! Screen ordered a 13-episode sixth season of the cult comedy series, which was canceled by NBC in May.

"I am very pleased that 'Community' will be returning for its predestined sixth season on Yahoo," Harmon said in a statement Monday, June 30. "I look forward to bringing our beloved NBC sitcom to a larger audience by moving it online. I vow to dominate our new competition. Rest easy, 'Big Bang Theory'. Look out, Bang Bus!"

Star added, "The reports of our cancelation have been greatly exaggerated.' - Mark Twain (The other version of this quote has been wrong for years). #SixSeasonsAndaMovie is real. Thank you Sony. Thank you Yahoo. Thank you Dan Harmon. And thank you to the greatest f%$#ing fans in the history of the human race. It's the internet. We can swear now."

McHale as well as other cast members including , , Danny Pudi, , and Jim Rash will return for the new installment. Russ Krasnoff, Gary Foster and Chris McKenna, meanwhile, will still serve as executive producers.

After NBC pulled the plug on "Community", Hulu showed interest in resurrecting the sitcom but the talks apparently fell apart. Harmon was initially not keen on the idea of bringing the show back for another season, but later changed his mind.

He wrote on his blog in late May, "For a million reasons, some selfish, some creative, one logistic, five sexual, three racist (in a good way) and, oddly, nine isometric... I said 'eh'," when Sony called him on Friday, May 9 to discuss "about the concept of the show living elsewhere." He added though, "I will change it to a 'sure, let's talk' on Monday morning and Sony can do their thing. I'm not going to be the guy that recancels cancelled 'Community'."

The sixth season is scheduled to debut this fall on Yahoo! Screen.
