Following speculation about 's involvement in "", James Gunn has confirmed the actor's cameo appearance in his movie. The director initially denied the rumors, but let it slip after a fan asked him on Twitter.

"The rumors of my pal @NathanFillion playing Nova in #guardiansofthegalaxy have been greatly (and entirely) exaggerated. Sorry, humans," he tweeted on Saturday, June 21 morning, but posted later the same day, "@STARS_TyranT: Are the rumours true that he has some part in the film?' @nathanfillion has a very small fun cameo he did as a favor to me."

"Guardians of the Galaxy" follows brash adventurer Peter Quill () who finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan (), a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe.

To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits-Rocket (), a gun-toting raccoon, Groot (), a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora () and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer (). But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand-with the galaxy's fate in the balance.

Gunn directed the action flick with a script which he co-wrote with Chris McCoy. The movie is due open in U.S. theaters on August 1.
