Sony Developing Captain Nemo Movie With Script by 'Smallville' Creators

Alfred Gough and Miles Millar write the screenplay based on Jules Verne's 'Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea'.

Another project to bring to the big screen is in the works at Sony/Columbia Pictures. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio has bought a spec script written by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar ("", "").

The film will offer a new take on the iconic antihero who was first introduced in 1870 in Jules Verne's "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea". Nemo is a scientific genius who roams the depths of the sea in his submarine, The Nautilus, built on a deserted island.

Years ago, Disney was developing a similar project under the working title "". David Fincher was once attached to the pic as director after McG left, but the "" helmer eventually dropped out of the movie as well.

The film was originally scheduled to begin production in 2010. Drafted by Randall Wallace and Bill Marsilii, it was supposed to be an origin story about how Captain Nemo constructed his warship, the Nautilus. No new update is available regarding the long-delayed flick.
