Warner Bros. is reportedly meeting with smaller companies in an attempt to pass off the film's distribution rights.

Warner Bros. bought "" which marks 's directorial debut, but now reportedly has lost interest in the movie. Deadline reports the studio "[is] now is chatting with specialty distributors about the possibility of one of them acquiring and releasing the film."

The report came on heels of unfavorable reviews coming from Cannes after the fantasy-neo-noir movie was screened at the Film Festival earlier this week. The film written and produced by Gosling boasts starry cast that include , , , and .

One of the negative feedbacks coming from Justin Chang of Variety who commented, "Had Terrence Malick and David Lynch somehow conceived an artistic love-child together, only to see it get kidnapped, strangled and repeatedly kicked in the face by Nicolas Winding Refn, the results might look and sound something like 'Lost River,' a risible slab of Detroit gothic that marks an altogether inauspicious writing-directing debut for Ryan Gosling."

But "Lost River" was not the only picture which got mixed reviews. "" which stars reportedly "was greeted with a smattering of boos" during the Cannes screening. Chang called it "a ludicrous abduction thriller that finds a once-great filmmaker slipping into previously unentered realms of self-parody."
