The new 'Late Night' host will lead the 66th annual awards show on August 25 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.

AceShowbiz - Seth Meyers is billed as the host for the upcoming Primetime Emmy Awards, following in the footsteps of his "Late Night" predecessor Jimmy Fallon who handled the hosting duty for the 62nd installment of the awards show. The Television Academy made the official announcement on Thursday, April 24.

"Seth is such a talented performer and writer, and we know he will bring something unique to hosting the Primetime Emmy Awards," said Bruce Rosenblum, head of the Television Academy, in a statement.

NBC's president of late-night and alternative programming Paul Telgedy added, "Seth's expertise and ease in front of a live audience during his time at 'SNL', as well as his comedic brilliance both as a writer and in front of the camera on 'SNL' and 'Late Night', makes him the perfect choice to host the Emmys. Plus, with Don's vast experience at putting these type of big productions together, we'll be in great hands."

With him being named the host for the 66th Emmy Awards, 2014 surely becomes a big year for Meyers. The former "Saturday Night Live" head writer debuted as the host of ABC's "Late Night with Seth Meyers" on February 24 and was recently named among Time's "100 Most Influential People" list.

The 2014 Primetime Emmys is set to take place Monday, August 25 and air live coast-to-coast from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles at 8-11 P.M. ET / 5-8 P.M. PT on NBC. Neil Patrick Harris hosted last year's installment when the show aired on CBS. Previous hosts also include late-night stars Jimmy Kimmel, Conan O'Brien and David Letterman.
