'X-Men' Clip in 'Amazing Spider-Man 2' End Credits Explained

The 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' clip which is shown in 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' stinger is not a crossover hint between the two franchises.

AceShowbiz - Rumors are buzzing on the internet that there could be a crossover between Spider-Man and X-Men. The speculation arises after it's revealed that the end credits of "The Amazing Spider-Man 2", which opens on April 16 in international market, carry a "X-Men: Days of Future Past" clip.

According to description on the internet, the post-credits scene features Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Toad (Evan Jonigkeit), and Havok (Lucas Till). The threesome bands together to take on William Stryker (Josh Helman).

Although both Spider-Man and X-Men actually exit in Marvel comic universe, Sony purchases movie rights to the former and Fox owns the latter. Variety explains that the cross-promotion is actually part of Sony and Fox's settlement in their tug-of-war over Marc Webb.

After 2012's "The Amazing Spider-Man", his negotiations to return for "Amazing Spider-Man 2" briefly stalled with Sony because he still had an existing contract with Fox to helm another film following 2009's "500 Days of Summer". Eventually, Fox agreed to allow Webb to direct the second Spidey movie, but only if Sony would promote "X-Men" film for free.

"The Amazing Spider-Man 2" will hit U.S. theaters on May 2. Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone return as Spidey and Gwen Stacy, while Jamie Foxx stars as Electro, Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn or Goblin, and Paul Giamatti as The Rhino. It's unclear if the same post-credits scene will be shown to audience in the States.

Meanwhile, "X-Men: Days of Future Past" directed by Bryan Singer will follow on May 23. Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Michael Fassbender, and James McAvoy are among the returning cast. Anna Paquin's scene which was previously edited out of the movie is back in the picture. "Essentially, [it's] a cameo," a rep for Fox told Buzzfeed.
