One of the pictures shows a shotgun-wielding primate, while Andy Serkis opens up that Caesar will have a growing family in the sequel.

A number of fresh photos from "" have just made their way out via USA Today. One picture shows a primate wielding a shotgun, and another features a group of armed apes navigating through the woods on horseback and on foot.

The human cast such as , , and are also seen in some of the pics. Despite the tension shown in the world where Apes turn the table on humans, a photo shows a male human sitting rather comfortably next to one of the simians.

, who donned motion-capture suit on set to play Caesar, spilled what to expect from the Ape leader, "Caesar not only has a wife, but also an infant son and a teenage son. This film centers around the notion of family - the survival of the family and what lengths you would go to to protect them when life is extremely hard and tough."

Director Matt Reeves, meanwhile, explained what the human survivors would be dealing with in the sequel, "The small group of humans are struggling to come back from devastation, and the apes are fighting for survival. The big question is, can they co-exist?" He added, "We all know it doesn't become Planet of Humans and Apes. It becomes Planet of the Apes. But this is that one moment of time where there is hope for humans."

A follow-up to 2011's "", the movie will see a growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar being threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth's dominant species.

It will be released in U.S. theaters staring July 11.
