The Las Vegas rock band and the New Zealand singer score 12 nominations each, beating musicians like Justin Timberlake and Katy Perry who earn 11 and 10 nominations respectively.

AceShowbiz - The nominees of this year's Billboard Music Awards were announced on Wednesday, April 9. Rock band Imagine Dragons, who's been enjoying the success of their "Night Visions" album, leads the pack with 12 nods in categories including Top Artist, Top Duo/Group and Top Rock Artist.

The Las Vegas four-piece isn't the only act who scores 12 nominations. They're joined by New Zealand singer Lorde who's nominated for Top New Artist, Top Female Artist and Top Rock Artist awards among others.

Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus are other big nominees. Earning 11 nominations, the former is up for Top Artist, Top Male Artist and Top R&B Artist titles. His 2013 album, "The 20/20 Experience", is set to compete against its sequel "The 20/20 Experience - 2 of 2" as well as Beyonce Knowles's "Beyonce", R. Kelly's "Black Panties" and Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" in Top R&B album category.

Meanwhile, Perry and Cyrus are up for 10 and 9 awards respectively. Both pop stars are set to battle each other, and other musicians too, in categories like Top Artist, Top Female Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Digital Songs Artist, Top Streaming Artist and Top Hot 100 song.

Eminem, Rihanna, Avicii, Daft Punk, Lady GaGa, Lana Del Rey and Drake are among other artists who are vying for various awards in the upcoming event. Winners will be revealed in a ceremony that's going to be broadcast live on ABC from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, May 18.
