The controversial singer said she took bulimia seriously because, like Lovato, she was a victim of the eating disorder.

AceShowbiz - Lady GaGa offended several people when she took the stage at SXSW earlier this month with vomit artist Millie Brown. Demi Lovato was one of them. GaGa did not ignore her comment and has specifically responded to her accusation.
GaGa was accused of glorifying bulimia by having Brown barfed green liquid on her during "Swine" performance. Lovato tweeted after the performance, "Sad... As if we didn't have enough people glamorizing eating disorders already. Bottom line, it's not 'cool' or 'artsy' at all. Would you let someone bring a needle and shoot up on you? Addiction is addiction."
Lovato experienced first hand the eating disorder and GaGa knew about it. "I have struggled with an eating disorder for over 10 years and I take that very seriously, I take the struggle of others very seriously," Gaga told E! News Friday, March 21. "I am very supportive of Demi's struggle and her recovery as well as the recovery of anyone who is suffering from that. But this performance had absolutely nothing to do with any eating disorder, and we never intended for it to be taken that way."
GaGa continued, "I'm really proud of the performance and really stand by the message of rage and pain that we were trying to express in that moment," adding, "I am in a really good place and I'm really, really happy."
GaGa also addressed the controversial stage act during her "Today" appearance on Friday morning. "I guess we weren't completely surprised. Millie and I know that not everybody's going to love that performance," the 27-year-old said. "But we both really believe in artistic expression and strong identities."
"I support her and what she does. ARTPOP, my new album, is about bringing art and music together and the sprit of creative rebellion. For us, that performance was art in its purest form. But we totally understand that some people won't be into it."
The act also kicked off a petition posted on Care2 to urge GaGa to cut ties with Brown. Regarding the negative feedback, GaGa told Savannah Guthrie, "Did we want the controversy? I suppose it doesn't matter. Either way, we don't make things for any intention in particular other than in the spirit of entertaining the crowd and creating something that is really for the moment. It wasn't meant for the 'Today' show. It was meant for a club performance in Austin, and we had a great time."
