Weezer Announces Return to the Studio, Teases New Album

Fans speculate that Weezer may be working on their ninth album after the band posts a 20-second cryptic clip in which they announce that they're 'in the studio now.'

Four years after putting out their last album, is apparently readying their new music. On Wednesday, March 19, the Los Angeles band hinted that they might be working on their ninth album after they posted a short YouTube video in which they announced that they're "in the studio now."

The 20-second clip, which is simply titled with the band's official =w= logo, sees the group hitting a recording studio and performing some different tracks. At the end of the video, frontman Rivers Cuomo makes a brief appearance.

Late last year, Weezer said that they would start working on their new album in January with Ric Ocasek, the man behind their successful 1994's "" and 2001's "".

Weezer's last LP "" arrived back in 2010 and peaked at No. 6 on Billboard 200. They later followed it up with a compilation set called "".

Last month, the band embarked on their five-day Weezer Cruise with , Toro y Moi, DIIV, the Cribs and Ash among others. During the event, the band debuted new song "Back to the Shack", which featured Cuomo name-checking drummer Patrick Wilson.
