According to a lawsuit launched by Mayer, a watch dealer called Robert Maron sold the singer $5 million in watches but seven of them are branded counterfeit by Rolex.

AceShowbiz - John Mayer has launched a lawsuit against Robert Maron, a watch dealer who sold $5 million in watches to him. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Mayer filed the lawsuit on Tuesday, March 18 in California Superior Court.
According to the complaint, Maron is identified as a broker and expert on "important" watches. Mayer started buying watches from Maron in 2007. In 2010, the "Your Body Is a Wonderland" singer brought his Rolex for repair. The company, however, said that it "was not authentic in all respects." Maron then apologized and gave a refund.
The next year, Mayer alleged that 7 Rolex watches he bought from Maron were branded counterfeit by the watch maker. Mayer now seeks $656,000, the price for the watches, as well as interest and damages for fraud, breach of oral contract and negligent misrepresentation.
Maron, who is a friend of Charlie Sheen and a co-executive producer of "Anger Management", has released a statement via his attorney Eric George. In the statement, the attorney said, "John Mayer, who briefly claimed expertise in Rolexes but now has apparently changed his mind, has brought a lawsuit that is legally and factually meritless." He added, "Mr. Maron refused to pay Mr. Mayer a cent to settle his frivolous claims, and will instead defeat them in court."
