Captain Marvel could be the first female standalone movie produced by Marvel since the studio is confirmed to have talked about it 'a lot.'

AceShowbiz - Expect to see a new female superhero character in a Marvel movie. When asked the possibility of bringing Captain Marvel to the big screen, producer Kevin Feige spilled to BadassDigest, "We've talked a lot about [Captain Marvel]. I think that would be very cool."
The studio is currently having Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow popping up in its movies from "Iron Man 2" to "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" to "The Avengers" and next "Avengers: Age of Ultron" which she will be filming in April this year.
When quizzed about giving the Russian female spy her own solo film, Feige said they would love to do it but would rather make a movie about a completely new character. "I like the idea if we're going to do a [female lead] do a new one. Do a wholly new character, do an origin story," so he explained.
"Frankly if we do a Black Widow movie after 'Age of Ultron,' when she's been central in three or four movies I don't think we'd get the quote unquote credit for it," the producer reasoned. "People would say 'She's already a big giant superhero!' But if we had a great idea, we'd do it."
The site drummed up the anticipation as adding, "My sources tell me that we will see an iteration of Captain Marvel onscreen by 2016 - either at the end of Phase Two or the beginning of Phase Three - in another Marvel movie."
Black Widow has received positive response, and the studio couldn't be happier about it. "I'm very proud of the way the Marvel movies handle the female characters who are in all the movies we are making, as opposed to feeling the pressure of 'When are you doing a female movie?' We're exploring a lot of Widow, and that's going to continue with Age of Ultron in a big way," he added.
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, "The Winter Soldier" is due April 4 in the United States, before "Age of Ultron" arrives next year, May 1 with Joss Whedon back at the helm. Then, "Captain America 3" will make its way out on May 6, 2016, ultimately facing off Superman vs. Batman film, "Man of Steel 2". The Russo brothers return to the directing seat.
"There's always a level of expectation and Marvel keeps raising the bar higher and higher," lead actor Chris Evans commented on the fierce competition to The Hollywood Reporter. "But you have confidence that they're going to make a good movie, you kind of let yourself go and allow yourself to be directed. And you really just become one small piece of the Marvel puzzle."
There are already two new additions to Marvel cinematic universe. Quicksilver (Aaron Johnson) and Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) are set to appear in "Age of Ultron" after being teased in the post-credits scene of "The Winter Soldier".
