Aberdeen, Washington honored the late Nirvana singer with a statue of him strumming on his guitar while shedding a tear.

AceShowbiz - Aberdeen, Washington celebrated Kurt Cobain Day on February 20, which would have been the late Nirvana frontman's 47th birthday. The town held a concert and an exhibit at the Aberdeen Museum of History that displayed Nirvana T-shirts, a couch that Cobain slept on and a weird statue of Cobain crying.
The sculpture became the talk of the town. Fans had reacted to the art work done by sculptor Randi Hubbard with shock, confusion as well as laughters, RollingStone.com reported. Hubbard began working on the statue in 1994 shortly after the singer's death. She had been constructing the statue in her auto shop for decades with the help of local art students.
The unveiling of the statue was past overdue, Aberdeen Mayor Bill Simpson said. "We should have done this a whole heckuva long time ago," he stated, adding, "We have been remiss for a long time of not honoring him." Simpson is hoping that the display will boost tourism and will be as big as Graceland eventually.
The Mayor actually received a backlash for memorializing Cobain. The late singer had nothing nice to say about the town and had an arrest for vandalism there. "Yeah, they [Nirvana] weren't the best people," Simpson told Seattle's King 5 News. "I'm not either."
Nirvana will be inducted to Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April.
