'American Idol' Recap: The Top 10 Guys Perform
TV

Sam Woolf, Alex Preston and Dexter Roberts are some of the boys who deliver impressive performances, while Briston Maroney and Maurice Townsend are not making the cut.

AceShowbiz - It's the boys' turn to perform live for the first time on "American Idol" season 13 on Wednesday, February 19. After a night filled with jittery opener for some of the girls on Tuesday, most of Top 10 guys did better than the female group.

Caleb Johnson kicked it off with "Stay With Me" by The Faces. Keith Urban praised his "perfect" song choice, Jennifer Lopez said, "That was some real rock star ish right there," and Harry Connick Jr. thought, "It's gonna be tough for the guys following you."

C.J. Harris showed up next with a cover of Ray Lamontagne's "Shelter". Harry noticed that C.J. tended to sing a little sharp, but he overcame it by putting emotion into his performance. The fact that he had a root canal just a day before made any technical shortcomings that night understandable.

Emmanuel Zidor went with "Best of My Love" by The Emotions. Harry said it was a "fun" and "infectious" performance, but reminded him to "stay in your lane." Keith agreed, saying the adrenaline helped his physical performance but also caused his pitch problems.

Picking "Babylon" by David Gray, Sam Woolf did not overdo it yet he managed to deliver a solid performance. Keith gushed, "Your voice is just money." J.Lo praised his "perfect pitch," but Harry wanted Sam to gain more confidence.

George Lovett sang Bruno Mars' "Grenade" and J.Lo complained that he didn't have full control of his runs. Harry thought George was so passionate that his voice spun out of control, while Keith blamed it on the wrong song choice.

Dexter Roberts, whom Harry introduced as one of the consistent performers, sang "This Ole Boy" by Craig Morgan. "You are the real-deal, legit, fully fledged country boy from Alabama," Keith said. Harry advised him to do something to differentiate himself from all the other country artists out there, but J.Lo loved his "easy and cool way."

Alex Preston covered "Volcano" by Damien Rice. Keith praised his song choice, saying, "That was probably the best song choice of the night." Harry liked that Alex "ended on a nine."

Singing "Comin' From Where I'm From" by Anthony Hamilton, Malcolm Allen didn't look comfortable on the stage. Harry criticized his repetitive runs and atonality. Keith suggested him to make more artistic choices.

Ben Briley played electric guitar while singing "Soulshine" by The Allman Brothers. His solo part only distracted him from his vocals, but Keith liked that he did the "first shredded guitar solo" in "Idol" history. J.Lo, meanwhile, felt like Ben came alive on the stage.

Spencer Lloyd was the last guy to perform that night. He picked "Love Don't Die" by The Fray, but failed to show the best of him as Harry said, "This is not your strong suit." The other two judges agreed with him.

Ethan Harris, Briston Maroney, Jordan Brisbane, Maurice Townsend and Casey Thrasher, who didn't get a chance to perform on Wednesday night, were eliminated. On Thursday, the Top 10 singers picked by America will be announced, while the judges will reveal the three Wild Cards.
